Installation of Exercise Facilities Utilizing Digital Content, Customized Exercise Plans by Experts
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "Wishing Everyone, Regardless of Age or Gender, to Exercise Without Discrimination and Live Healthily"
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is creating the ‘Mapo NuguNuna Exercise Center,’ a facility where people of all ages and abilities can exercise without barriers of generation or disability, and will hold an opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on April 18.
Until now, vulnerable exercisers such as people with disabilities and the elderly often could not use general exercise facilities, and even if they could, accessibility was poor or suitable exercise equipment was lacking. Additionally, it was difficult to receive exercise guidance services tailored to vulnerable exercisers.
In response, Mapo-gu has been developing the ‘Mapo NuguNuna Exercise Center’ since last year to ensure that residents do not give up exercising due to age or disability and can lead healthy lives.
The ‘Mapo NuguNuna Exercise Center’ is located within the Gongdeok SK Leaders View commercial complex as a donated facility in Mapo-ro District 6, with a total floor area of 384.69㎡. The basement first floor is designed for people with disabilities, the elderly, and general adults, while the ground first floor is dedicated to children with and without disabilities.
The most notable feature of the NuguNuna Exercise Center is the introduction of various exercise programs utilizing digital content such as AR.
Mapo-gu has prepared a digital walking track, digital climbing, and motion recognition training using a beam projector and motion recognition devices to detect users’ movements and make exercise less monotonous. Through this, center users can customize the intensity and amount of exercise according to their physical condition and fitness level.
Also, qualified professionals such as occupational therapists and special physical education teachers reside on-site to design and guide exercise tailored to individuals’ health conditions, which Mapo-gu expects will provide practical help to residents who need customized exercise.
The children’s area offers content tailored to children’s eye levels and interests, including Lego assembly, digital sketching, and digital touch play, and a separate guardian space has been created so children can play safely and enjoyably.
The NuguNuna Exercise Center operates by advance reservation and is open Tuesday through Sunday (closed on public holidays and Mondays) from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Residents wishing to use the facility can make online reservations via the Naver portal site or by phone. Each session lasts 2 hours, and the usage fee is 1,000 KRW. Group space rental is available every Friday.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “I hope the Mapo NuguNuna Exercise Center will serve not only as a space where people of all ages and genders can live healthily without discrimination but also as a place of harmony that breaks down generational and disability barriers.” He added, “Mapo-gu will continue to establish second and third NuguNuna Exercise Centers throughout the region so that everyone can exercise healthily.”
