Autopsy Requested at National Forensic Service, Investigation Underway
The naked body discovered on the 16th in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, has been identified as a single man in his 60s. However, it is expected that it will take considerable time to clarify the exact circumstances of his death.
On the afternoon of the 17th, YTN reported that the police, after conducting fingerprint comparison, confirmed the identity of the body as a man in his 60s who lived alone. It was investigated that this man had a chronic illness and was suffering from financial difficulties.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the man's death, but it is expected to take a significant amount of time. Analysis of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the entrance of the sewer where the body was found showed no signs of the man entering the sewer or anyone moving the body.
The clothes found in the drain were burned to the point that their shape was unrecognizable. The police plan to request DNA testing from the National Forensic Service to identify the owner of the clothes. Meanwhile, the National Forensic Service stated that there is no evidence of homicide on the body, but the cause and estimated time of death have not yet been disclosed.
The body was discovered around 2:40 p.m. on the 16th in a river sewer in Ganeung-dong, Uijeongbu City. After receiving the report, the fire department and police arrived at the scene and retrieved the body about 8 meters inside the sewer entrance, then transported it to a nearby funeral home.
It is reported that the body was found by a river official who was inspecting the site in advance. Burned clothing was found around the scene. The body was naked and in a severely decomposed state, and no visible external injuries were observed with the naked eye.
The police plan to investigate the circumstances of the death based on the identity confirmed so far while awaiting the official autopsy results from the National Forensic Service.
