Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, attended the completion ceremony of 10,000 housing units in the second phase of the Hwaseong District in Pyongyang. North Korea has achieved its goal of constructing housing complexes with 10,000 units for three consecutive years.
On the 17th, the Korean Central News Agency reported that the completion ceremony for the second phase of the Hwaseong District housing units was held on the 16th with Chairman Kim in attendance.
Previously, at the 8th Party Congress in January 2021, North Korea announced a plan to build a total of 50,000 housing units in Pyongyang over the next five years, with 10,000 units constructed annually. Subsequently, 10,000 housing units were completed in Songhwa Street in April of the following year and in the first phase of the Hwaseong District in April last year.
The second phase of the Hwaseong District, where the completion ceremony was held this time, is called 'Rimhung Street' and consists of 10,000 housing units. It is North Korea's third large-scale housing complex, which began construction in February last year. The third phase of the Hwaseong District broke ground in February this year, with Chairman Kim also attending the groundbreaking ceremony.

The completion ceremony was held at night and featured spectacular events such as fireworks and aerial performances.
The news agency reported that Chairman Kim expressed great expectations and confidence that the builders who created more than 30,000 modern housing units in just three years will continue to carry out the next phase goals of the five-year capital construction plan with pure patriotic loyalty and revolutionary spirit.
The event was attended by a large number of party, government, and military officials, including Premier Kim Tok Hun, Deputy Director of the Workers' Party Kim Yo Jong, Party Secretaries Jo Yong Won and Ri Il Hwan, Chief Secretary of the Pyongyang City Party Committee Kim Su Gil, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Park Jong Chon, Minister of National Defense Kang Sun Nam, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Son Hui.
Chairman Kim’s attendance is interpreted as an effort to improve outdated residential facilities, soothe public sentiment, and garner support from residents.
The news agency conveyed that at the completion ceremony, Chairman Kim "warmly blessed and sincerely wished happiness to all families receiving new homes on Rimhung Street in the joyous month of April."
