Coupang Fresh Food Cooler Bag 'Fresh Bag'
Often Used to Dispose of Household Trash
"It's Not a Trash Can... Let's Not Throw Away Our Conscience"
A photo showing what appears to be various household trash dumped inside a Coupang Fresh Bag has been revealed, drawing criticism. The Fresh Bag is an insulated bag used to deliver fresh food and other items ordered from Coupang. After receiving the items, the Coupang delivery driver collects the empty bag left in front of the delivery location. Usually, Coupang sends a notification message asking customers to "please leave the Fresh Bag outside now" before collection.
However, on the 16th, a person presumed to be a Coupang delivery driver named A posted a photo on an online community with the message, "Please do not do this kind of thing. The Fresh Bag is not a trash can," attracting attention. The photo showed the Fresh Bag filled with containers from delivered food, empty paper packs, plastic, and takeout coffee cups. The bag should have been left empty, but it appears that the customer put their trash inside. Netizens who saw this criticized, saying, "No sense," "Basic common sense is lacking," and "Can't they tell the difference between a bag and a trash can?"
Such irresponsible behavior by some users using the Fresh Bag has caused controversy before. In March last year, a delivery driver posted complaints on an online community about trash such as used diapers, wet wipes, and paper being found inside Fresh Bags. The poster, B, said, "This came up in a group chat among drivers," and shared photos of Fresh Bags turned into trash bins.
B said, "Cases of trash being put inside Fresh Bags are frequent, so among drivers, they call it a 'trash bag.' Sometimes customers do not leave the Fresh Bag at the door but instead put trash inside and leave it in a trash collection area or an unknown place. If the driver cannot find it, the app shows 'uncollected Fresh Bag,' and the driver has no choice but to keep visiting that house during deliveries," expressing frustration.
B also added, "Even if the Fresh Bag is collected, drivers only receive about 100 to 200 won. I hope people will not throw their conscience away in the Fresh Bag."
