Intel Releases Following Nvidia
U.S. semiconductor company AMD unveiled a new semiconductor product for AI PCs on the 16th (local time). AI PCs are equipped with chips designed to perform AI functions such as real-time language translation and summarization within the device.
On the same day, AMD announced the launch of the 'Ryzen Pro 8040 Series' processors for laptops and mobile devices, and the 'Ryzen Pro 8000 Series' processors for PCs. AMD explained that the processors will be installed in PCs from U.S. companies HP and Lenovo brands starting in the second quarter. The Taiwan foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturer) company TSMC is scheduled to produce them.
The semiconductor market for AI PCs has high growth potential. Global market research firm Gartner stated that AI PC shipments this year are expected to reach 54.5 million units, accounting for 22% of all PCs.
Meanwhile, Nvidia, regarded as a leader in AI chips, unveiled new GPUs (graphics processing units) that run AI applications on PCs from Acer, Dell, Lenovo, and others in January. Intel also launched the 'Core Ultra' chip equipped with AI functions for PCs in December last year. Intel stated that the chip will be installed in devices from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and others. Additionally, Intel announced in January that it expects to ship about 40 million AI PCs this year alone.
