One-stop 'Hospital Escort Service' from child pickup to hospital accompaniment, return home, and guardian guidance to fill care gaps
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will implement the ‘Bedside Care Service’ starting from the 18th of this month to mark the 2nd anniversary of the opening of the ‘Our Child Safe Companion Center.’
Since April 2022, Seongdong-gu has been operating the ‘Our Child Safe Companion Center,’ providing a ‘Sick Child Hospital Companion Service’ where care teachers accompany children throughout the entire hospital visit process?from pickup, medical examination, to return home?on behalf of parents or guardians who find it difficult to accompany their children due to reasons such as both parents working or urgent matters.
In addition, Seongdong-gu is launching the ‘Bedside Care Service’ to allow sick children to stay and recover in a comfortable space. This service strengthens public care by having caregivers look after and safely protect children on behalf of parents or guardians who are unable to care for their sick children.
To provide the Bedside Care Service, a bed and play rest area have been newly established within the ‘Our Child Safe Companion Center.’ Character dolls, board games, books, and other items that children enjoy have also been provided to help them relax during their stay.
Furthermore, a professional nurse is stationed to provide caregiving services such as medication administration and temperature checks for sick children, and to inform guardians in detail about the child’s condition so they can leave their children with peace of mind.
For the convenience of visitors, a dedicated parking space has been prepared on the basement level 1 of the Seongdong-gu Urban Management Corporation building where the center is located. The signage on the building’s exterior has also been refurbished to make it easier to find.
The ‘Bedside Care Service’ is available to children aged 4 to 12 (elementary school students) residing in Seongdong-gu, and the service hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays (excluding public holidays).
To apply for the service, guardians must register as members of the ‘Our Child Safe Companion Center’ (search on Seongdong-gu Office website) and then call the center to request the service.
The service is free of charge, and to use it, guardians and children must visit the center in person, bringing a medication request form, medicine packets, and other necessary documents.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I hope that the hospital companion and bedside care services of the ‘Our Child Safe Companion Center’ will be a great help to families struggling to find a place to take their children when they suddenly fall ill.” He added, “We will continue to work to eliminate blind spots in care and create a safe and happy Seongdong-gu for children and parents.”
