The 'Carbon Neutral Forest' is established to absorb carbon dioxide emitted from daily life and industrial activities. After signing the 'Carbon Neutral Activities and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Agreement' in 2021, the Korea Forest Service and Hyundai Department Store have continued tree planting activities since the following year.
On this day, about 40 people, including Hyundai Department Store employees and Life Forest members, planted 200 strobe pine trees in a national forest area of approximately 50,000 pyeong in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do.
The Korea Forest Service, Hyundai Department Store, and others plan to plant a total of about 30,000 trees by 2027 to create the Carbon Neutral Forest.
Im Sang-seop, Deputy Director of the Korea Forest Service, said, "Forests are large-scale carbon sinks based on nature and a key pillar for achieving carbon neutrality," adding, "We will continue to develop public-private cooperation models in the forestry sector to create a sustainable future through forests."
