Incheon Yeonsu-gu Abolishes Income Criteria for Medical Expense Support for High-Risk Pregnant Women and Premature Infants

Yeonsu-gu, Incheon announced on the 16th that it will completely abolish the income criteria for medical expense support for high-risk pregnant women, premature infants, and infants with congenital abnormalities starting this year.

This measure reflects the serious low birthrate problem, increasing advanced maternal age pregnancies, and infertility. Until last year, medical expenses were only supported for households with an income below 180% of the median income.

The high-risk pregnant women medical expense support project covers 90% of the total out-of-pocket expenses and non-reimbursable medical fees for pregnant women hospitalized due to 19 major high-risk pregnancy conditions such as preterm labor, diabetes, and multiple pregnancies, up to a maximum of 3 million KRW.

Additionally, the medical expense support project for premature infants and infants with congenital abnormalities provides support ranging from 3 million KRW up to a maximum of 10 million KRW for premature infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit within 24 hours of birth.

Furthermore, medical expenses for infants diagnosed and hospitalized for surgery due to congenital abnormalities within two years after birth are supported up to 5 million KRW without any income criteria. Applications can be made by visiting the health center in charge of the resident registration address directly or through the e-Health Center public health portal and the iMajung app.

A representative from Yeonsu-gu Health Center stated, "We will make further efforts to reduce the economic burden and ensure healthy childbirth and maternal and child health by supporting medical expenses necessary for appropriate treatment and management regardless of income."
