Sacheon City, Cheering for a Strong Start as an Aerospace Complex City

Growing Interest and Expectations in Sacheon, Gyeongnam Ahead of the Establishment of the Space Aviation Agency

Events Including a Commemorative Citizen Walking Contest, YouTuber Lecture, and KBS Open Concert

Gyeongnam Sacheon, rapidly emerging as the space capital of the Republic of Korea, is experiencing a heightened local atmosphere with various festivals, events, and activities commemorating the opening of the Space Aviation Agency.

According to Sacheon City on the 16th, the 26th Sacheon Waryong Cultural Festival (April 26-28) and the 2024 Sacheon Citizens' Walking Contest (May 26) will be held at the Sacheon City Hall Sunset Plaza, expected to be attended by many citizens.

In particular, the festival atmosphere in the region is expected to reach its peak through the KBS Open Concert commemorating the opening of the Space Aviation Agency, held on May 28 at the Samcheonpo Sports Complex.

Additionally, festivals and events enjoyed by various groups such as children and the elderly will be prepared through the 21st Sacheon City Welfare Promotion Contest for the Disabled, Children's Day Festival, the 14th Sacheon City Resident Welfare Expo, and the Hyo Concert with Sacheon citizens.

Moreover, a special lecture by a science YouTuber for employees will not only raise overall interest and understanding of the space field but also, in May, a celebratory SNS event with abundant prizes for the opening of the Space Aviation Agency will be held.

Earlier, during the past weekend (April 12-13), the Sacheon Bito Island Byeoljubu-jeon Festival, the Sacheon Mayor’s Cup National Paragliding Competition, and the free performance of the play "Star" were successfully held to commemorate the opening of the Space Aviation Agency.

The Sacheon Bito Island Byeoljubu-jeon Festival marked its 9th year this year and was held from April 12 to 13 at the parking lot of Bito Marine Fishing Park in Seopo-myeon under the theme "From the Legend of Bito Island to the World! To Space!"

About 1,000 citizens and visitors who participated in this festival experienced a variety of rich sights and hands-on events, including a walking contest wishing for the successful opening of the Space Aviation Agency.

Also, the 18th Sacheon Mayor’s Cup National Paragliding Competition, held from April 13 to 14 to celebrate the opening of the Space Aviation Agency, attracted about 500 participants from across the country, sufficiently promoting the status of Sacheon as the aerospace capital of Korea.

At the Sacheon Culture and Arts Center, about 500 citizens enjoyed cultural life over the weekend of April 13 and 14 through the free performance of the play "Star" by the Jangjabeondeok Theater Company.

The city plans to increase interest and expectations for the opening of the Space Aviation Agency through festivals, events, lectures, and other activities, securing momentum for the development of a space aviation complex city centered around the agency.

A city official said, “Many events and festivals commemorating the opening of the Space Aviation Agency are planned in the future, so we ask for the interest and participation of many citizens,” adding, “Please also show great interest in the Space Aviation Agency and the construction of the space aviation complex city.”
