Sancheong-gun Collaborates with Specialized Cities to Advance the Korean Medicine Industry

Founding General Meeting of the Win-Win Development Council with 4 Local Governments

Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is seeking mutual development with four cities specialized in the Korean medicine industry to promote the growth of the Korean medicine sector. On the 16th, according to the county, the ‘Korean Medicine Industry Mutual Development Council Inaugural General Meeting’ was held at Dongdaemun-gu Office in Seoul.


At the inaugural general meeting, five local governments specializing in the Korean medicine industry nationwide, including Sancheong-gun, Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul, Jecheon-si, Jung-gu in Daegu, and Yeongcheon-si, attended.

At the inaugural general meeting, Lee Pil-hyung, the head of Dongdaemun-gu Office in Seoul, was appointed as the first chairman of the council. The meeting confirmed the regulations for council operations, signed the agreement, and discussed joint cooperation plans to revitalize the Korean medicine industry.


In particular, through building collaboration among local governments specializing in the Korean medicine industry scattered nationwide, they agreed to pool efforts to revitalize the declining Korean medicine industry by sharing work know-how and development plans.


They also decided to establish a foundation for revitalizing the Korean medicine industry through continuous resource exchange and support and cooperation for technology development, and to exchange information by holding regular academic seminars.


Additionally, they agreed to actively address common promotion tasks that require joint response, such as submitting proposals to central government agencies for the development of the Korean medicine industry.


Lee Seung-hwa, the county governor, said, “Sancheong-gun has created Donguibogam Village to foster and develop the Korean medicine industry and, based on the experience and achievements of the Korean Medicine Herb Festival held since 2001, successfully hosted two expos in 2013 and last year, achieving results that introduced the excellence of Korean medicine to the world.” He added, “I hope this inaugural general meeting will become a key driving force for regional mutual development by discussing joint current issues for the development of the Korean medicine industry and promoting exchange and cooperation.”
