Hyosung TNC Launches Eco-Friendly T-Shirts Made from Jeju Waste Plastic

Jeju Development Corporation Collaborates with Discovery Expedition

Discarded plastic waste in Jeju has been reborn as eco-friendly T-shirts.

Hyosung TNC announced on the 16th that it has launched four types of 'Jeju Recycle Edition' T-shirts in collaboration with Jeju Development Corporation, which produces and sells Jeju Samdasoo, and the premium lifestyle outdoor brand Discovery Expedition.

Last September, they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand the marine plastic waste resource circulation system in Jeju. Since then, Jeju Development Corporation has collected transparent PET bottles and plastic waste discarded along the Jeju coast.

Hyosung TNC recycled the collected PET bottles and plastic waste to produce 'Regen,' an eco-friendly fiber, and Discovery Expedition released T-shirts made from Regen. A total of 2 tons of plastic waste were recycled to produce these products.

Hyosung TNC expects that not only will this prevent PET bottles and plastic waste discarded along the Jeju coast from flowing into the sea and causing pollution, but it will also raise consumer awareness of resource circulation systems and recycling, thereby expanding the base of the eco-friendly market.

Kim Chi-hyung, CEO of Hyosung TNC, said, "As a leading domestic eco-friendly fiber brand, Regen has collaborated with various local governments and eco-friendly fashion brands to take the lead in creating a sustainable environment," adding, "We will expand eco-friendly collaborations to lead the resource circulation system and the eco-friendly market."
