This year's Bio Korea will be held from July 8 to 10 at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The institute plans to organize the Global Open Innovation Day event in connection with Bio Korea on the 9th and 10th. The event consists of various programs such as conferences, pitching, and partnering to strengthen the competitiveness of Korea's pharmaceutical and bio industries and support their global expansion.

On the 9th, a conference titled 'Global Open Innovation Cooperation and Activation Strategies' will be held to share various global cooperation cases and strategies of global pharmaceutical companies. It will be divided into two sessions: Part 1 (morning) and Part 2 (afternoon). In Part 1, global pharmaceutical companies such as BeiGene, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), and Lonza will share in-depth business development strategies and open innovation cooperation cases. Following this, Part 2 will analyze domestic and international trends and market access strategies for open innovation in the pharmaceutical and bio industries through keynote presentations and panel discussions, sharing key success cases and exploring cooperation plans for global expansion.

The pitching and seminar program will be held on the 10th in collaboration with Amgen under the name 'KHIDI-Amgen Science Academy Bio Day.' This open innovation program is designed to share Amgen's innovative research and development (R&D) technologies and strategies with domestic pharmaceutical and bio stakeholders and to strengthen networking with promising domestic companies. A global director-level representative from Amgen will attend to introduce key research areas and technologies of interest across various therapeutic fields and share strategies to activate innovation through collaboration.

Additionally, a lecture by Raymond Deshe, Senior Vice President overseeing Amgen's global R&D, will be held, along with the Golden Ticket pitching presentation, a program through which Amgen discovers and supports promising innovative companies for acceleration. Presentations are open to companies that apply in advance through the official application site by the 26th and pass the first document screening. Two companies selected in the final round will receive various benefits for one year, including provision of office space, mentoring, and consulting.

Partnering meetings will be organized on the 9th in collaboration with BeiGene, a global oncology specialist company. Through this, the plan is to not only expand domestic companies' market entry into the U.S., Europe, and China but also create opportunities for technological collaboration in cancer and immune diseases. BeiGene is interested in differentiated blood cancer and solid tumor technologies, unmet needs in inflammation and immune diseases, market entry or expansion in the U.S. and Europe, and entry and commercialization in the emerging Chinese market. Regarding this, companies wishing to cooperate with BeiGene in R&D or commercialization for global market entry can apply online by the 19th to arrange individual meetings.

Kim Yong-woo, head of the Pharmaceutical Bio Industry Division at the institute, said, “Open innovation is a key keyword for cooperation in the pharmaceutical and bio industries,” and added, “We will actively support creating networking exchanges and various open innovation cooperation opportunities for domestic pharmaceutical and bio companies through Bio Korea 2024.”
