According to CNN and other broadcasts, on the 12th (local time), a trial was held at the Skowhegan Court in Maine, USA, for Jason Servil (20), who was charged with stabbing and killing Alice Abbott (20 at the time) in 2022. The court sentenced Servil to 45 years in prison that day.

The victim's family, who wanted a life sentence, repeatedly shouted, "He deserves to die," and Abbott's enraged brother lunged at the defendant Servil, who was about to be escorted out of the courtroom, by climbing over the barrier installed in the courtroom.

Although court security and other officials stopped the incident from escalating into a brawl, the courtroom became chaotic as Abbott's brother struggled while being restrained by security personnel. The disturbance only calmed down after a security officer fired a taser gun at Abbott's brother. The defendant Servil, wearing an orange prison uniform and handcuffed, watched the scene.

Servil was indicted for brutally murdering his girlfriend Abbott in July 2022. The two reportedly met online, dated for a short period, and then broke up. After learning that Abbott was seeing another man, Servil, driven by jealousy, harbored resentment and committed the crime. About 99 stab wounds were found on Abbott's body, and the cause of death was determined to be excessive bleeding. Servil consistently claimed innocence during the initial police investigation but confessed to the crime in January while claiming diminished mental capacity.

After the courtroom brawl, Abbott's brother wrote on social media, "I cannot forget the terror he inflicted on our family," and added, "Any sentence that grants him freedom will pose a threat to public safety."

The Skowhegan Court is reportedly considering whether to indict Abbott's family for assault due to their disruptive behavior in the courtroom. Barbara Cadon, spokesperson for the Maine court, pointed out, "Such incidents are becoming increasingly common in courts nationwide," and added, "We continue to witness security issues occurring in courtrooms."

Previously, in October last year, a brawl broke out in a Texas court in the United States. During the trial of Frank Deleon Jr. (19), who was charged with murdering his 16-year-old girlfriend Diamond Alvarez, the victim's mother lost her temper and lunged at the perpetrator after seeing him smile during the trial, causing chaos in the courtroom. Other family members, including the victim's uncle, joined in, and the courtroom brawl lasted for several minutes before court officials intervened and restored order.
