The 14-year-old daughter of a famous Chinese TV host has sparked controversy after being seen wearing luxury clothing worth tens of millions of won.
The subject of the controversy is Li Xiang, an actress who was popular in China in the early 2000s, and her only daughter Angela Wang Shiling (14). Li is currently active as a TV host in China and enjoys popularity. Her daughter has been studying abroad in the UK, known for its high cost of living, for two years.

Hong Kong media outlet South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 14th that "Li has been criticized several times over the past decade for raising her daughter lavishly while raising her son frugally, as per a Chinese proverb."
The controversy began when Li posted a photo of her daughter at the end of last month with the caption "She is on vacation." Around the same time, her daughter, who has over 8 million followers, posted a similar photo on her social media, saying, "Mom is staying in London, so I feel good every day."
Local netizens focused their attention on the price of the clothing the daughter was wearing in the photos. According to Chinese news portal Baidu, the purple coat the daughter wore costs $3,500 (4.85 million won), the skirt $2,000 (2.77 million won), and the bag $1,800 (2.49 million won). Another coat in a different photo was estimated at $2,200 (3.04 million won), the white blouse $1,900 (2.63 million won), and the bracelet $5,500 (7.61 million won).
The hairpin the daughter wore is also from the Italian luxury brand Miu Miu and is known to cost $450 (620,000 won). One netizen commented on Weibo, "The cheapest thing she uses might be her phone case."
Netizens showed mixed reactions to the news. Some expressed negative opinions, saying, "The clothes don't suit Wang Shiling. They make her look much older," and "I wish they would stop showing off their money." However, others said, "Wang Shiling is the woman I envy the most. In my next life, I want to be Li Xiang's daughter," and "They are very rich. What's wrong with rich people spending money?"
Meanwhile, Li Xiang stated in an interview with a media outlet last year that "It is normal to buy expensive clothes and bags for my daughter." At the time, she said, "We are not short of money, so why should we live frugally? If my daughter likes something, I will buy it. There is no need to save money." She also revealed that she gives her daughter a monthly allowance of 150,000 yuan (about 28 million won).
