UAM Takes Off in Saemangeum... Korea Airports Corporation Partners with Jeonbuk Province

Collaboration Among SKT, Hanwha Systems, and Tmap Mobility

Korea Airports Corporation is promoting an Urban Air Mobility (UAM) project in the Saemangeum area of Jeonbuk.


On the 15th, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and the Saemangeum Development Authority regarding this matter. The K-UAM Dream Team (Korea Airports Corporation, Hanwha Systems, SK Telecom, T Map Mobility) plans to build a future aviation mobility ecosystem in the region and activate UAM.


Specifically, the corporation will provide UAM vertiports and traffic management services. SK Telecom will be responsible for aircraft introduction, flight services, and comprehensive UAM service operations including AI-based mobility demand analysis. Hanwha Systems will handle UAM aircraft development, operation, manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), and traffic management solution development. T Map Mobility will develop and operate an integrated transportation service Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform.


The joint agreement institution, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, will derive ways to link with local industries through the 'UAM Demonstration and Service Infrastructure Establishment and Related Industry Promotion Study' to be launched this month. The Saemangeum Development Authority will incorporate the UAM operational concept into the basic urban design plan and strengthen administrative support such as securing national funding and permits.


A corporation official stated, "We will strive for the successful commercialization of Jeonbuk-type UAM by combining 44 years of aviation industry know-how and technology with the future technologies and capital possessed by SK Telecom, Hanwha Systems, and T Map Mobility, as well as the administrative support of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and the Saemangeum Development Authority."
