The 1st Academic Conference of the Gyeongnam Cultural Tourism Narrators Association Held in Geochang

Providing Opportunities to Showcase Skills in Geochang

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 15th that the 2024 1st Academic Conference of the Gyeongnam Cultural Tourism Narrators Association was successfully held at the Geochang Cultural Center Sangsalmi Hall, attended by about 100 people including Kim Jaegon, president of the Gyeongnam Cultural Tourism Narrators Association, narrators from 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam, Gu In-mo, the county governor, and Lee Dong-hoon, tourism policy officer of Gyeongnam Province.


This 1st Academic Conference was hosted by the Gyeongnam Cultural Tourism Narrators Association and prepared by the Geochang-gun Narrators Association, the host of the event. It was the official first meeting event for narrators in 2024, focusing on strengthening the capabilities of narrators by serving as a platform for exchanging information that reexamines the culture and history of each region in Gyeongnam Province.

Following the opening declaration in Part 1, President Kim Jaegon emphasized the significance of the academic conference in his opening remarks, stating, “The importance of the academic conference is so great that it needs no further emphasis, as it is an essential element for strengthening the capabilities of narrators. We also have high expectations for this 1st Academic Conference held in the tourist destination of Geochang.”


County Governor Gu, who attended to give a welcome address, said, “I am very pleased that the academic conference is being held in Geochang on this warm spring day, and on behalf of the 60,000 residents of Geochang-gun, I warmly welcome the narrators from various regions of Gyeongnam who have visited Geochang to participate.”


The main event of Part 2 of the academic conference proceeded with a presentation by a narrator from Yangsan City on understanding temple architecture within temple culture, followed by a presentation by a Geochang-gun narrator on integrating existential meanings into the narration activities about our myths. This was followed by a Q&A and supplementary explanation session, and then an announcement regarding the themes and formats of the academic conferences to be promoted over the next two years.


After the main event, the attendees moved to the Geochang Susungdae tourist site and spent time communicating and socializing over lunch at a nearby local restaurant. The conference concluded meaningfully with a field tour of major tourist attractions in Geochang, including the Hwangsan Traditional Hanok Village and the Susungdae Suspension Bridge.


Meanwhile, the Gyeongsangnam-do Cultural Tourism Narrators Association plans to hold two more academic conferences in June and September 2024, making it a total of three annual events, with all 241 members participating sequentially.
