In connection with the case where two women in their 20s were murdered at a hotel in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, it has emerged that the two male perpetrators committed the crime with the intent to extort money and valuables.
A National Police Agency official stated at a regular press briefing held on the 15th that, in response to a question about whether the motive for the Paju incident was extortion, "Forensic data analysis is ongoing, and such circumstances have been found," adding, "There is evidence of collusion between the two male perpetrators, related (internet) keyword searches, preparation of tools for the crime, and signs of luring the victims."
Earlier, at 10:37 a.m. on the 10th, the police received a report that two men had jumped from a hotel in Paju. Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered two deceased women in the room where the men had been staying. The preliminary oral opinion from the National Forensic Service suggests that the cause of death of the women was strangulation.
The police believe that one of the deceased women’s family had filed a missing person report a day earlier, and when the police tracked her movements to the hotel room, the men likely jumped to their deaths.
CCTV footage inside the hotel confirmed that the women entered the room holding their mobile phones, but their phones were not found inside the room. The police have secured the mobile phones of the deceased men and are conducting digital forensic investigations.
