On the 14th, Mainichi Shimbun reported that inquiries from new employees requesting resignation agency services continue. A woman in her 20s who got a job at a beauty-related company recently used a resignation agency service, saying, "I can no longer talk with such a company." Before joining, she was told that "hair color is free," but just before the entrance ceremony, she was instructed to dye her hair black. If she refused, she could not attend the ceremony. Eventually, the woman called a resignation agency company and asked them to handle the resignation process. It is reported that she is currently looking for a new job.
One resignation agency company stated that they charge 22,000 yen (about 200,000 KRW) if the client is a full-time or contract employee, and 12,000 yen (about 110,000 KRW) for part-time workers. Founded in March 2022, this company has received over 8,000 requests in two years. From the beginning of this year until the 12th, the total number of requests was 545, of which about 80 were from new employees. The company representative, Mr. A, speculated, "I don't know if this number is large or small, but I think the demand for resignation agency services will increase, especially among young people."
Deciding to Resign Due to Instructions Different from Before Joining... Recent Increase in Requests from People in Their 50s and 60s
New employees pointed out that the reason for deciding to resign is that "the work environment is far from what they heard before joining." Mr. A said, "Nowadays, young generations can see how others work through social networking services (SNS). Among them, the number of people who feel alienated in their workplace environment seems to be increasing."
About 60% of service users are young people in their 20s and 30s, but recently, requests from people in their 50s and 60s have also been increasing. Last year, there was even a case where a full-time employee in their 70s, whose resignation was rejected by the company, used a resignation agency service.
Japanese netizens responded with comments such as, "Recruitment advertisements should only include accurate information. Malicious companies that provide false information should be regulated," "I also used a resignation agency service to quit my job. They handled everything well, from setting the resignation date to resolving unpaid final wages," and "I think it is proper to resign in person, but for those who find it difficult to quit or suffer so much that they cannot face their boss or colleagues, I think this is a good service."
