Eunpyeong Wood Workshop Carpenters Visit to Repair Bookshelves, Shelves, and More Free of Charge
Contributing to Awareness of Wood Use and Spread of Wood Culture Through Wooden Item Repairs
Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that from this month until November, carpenters from the Eunpyeong Woodworking Workshop will directly visit vulnerable groups and social welfare facilities in the area to repair broken wooden items through the "Visiting Woodworking Service."
The service targets basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, people with disabilities, single-parent families, and social welfare facilities. Applications can be made by calling the Eunpyeong-gu Office's Parks and Greenery Division. When the carpenters visit for repairs, proof related to the vulnerable group status must be presented.
The "Visiting Woodworking Service" supports repairs of wooden household items such as bookshelves, shelves, cabinets, doors, doorknobs, thresholds, and chairs. Repairs are conducted on-site, and if immediate repair is not possible, items are taken to the woodworking workshop for repair and then reinstalled to ensure convenience for service recipients.
The "Eunpyeong Woodworking Workshop," located in Seoorung Park, opened in July 2020. It utilizes dead trees from Eunpyeong-gu parks to create wooden sculptures shaped like animals such as deer and has produced and installed over 450 park benches within local parks. It contributes to increasing residents' affinity for wood and promoting wood culture.
In particular, over the past three years, the Eunpyeong Woodworking Workshop has visited 44 vulnerable households and social welfare facilities to provide woodworking repair services.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, "The Eunpyeong-gu 'Visiting Woodworking Service' is a welfare project implemented to assist the daily lives of vulnerable groups," adding, "We will continue to strengthen projects related to the promotion of wood culture so that residents can enjoy a natural and healthy life."
