President Biden of the US States "Opposes Israel's Retaliation Against Iran"

Reported citing senior local officials
US appears to state it will not participate in Israel's operation against Iran attack
Trump says "President weakly attacks Israel"

On the 13th (local time), U.S. President Joe Biden expressed in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Iran's attack on Israel that "the United States opposes any Israeli retaliation against Iran," Bloomberg News reported, citing a senior official.

According to the report, President Biden told Prime Minister Netanyahu, "Thanks to the joint defense efforts of Israel, the United States, and other regional countries, Iran's attack failed," adding, "Didn't you win? Take the victory."

A senior official stated that President Biden said the U.S. would neither participate in nor support any offensive operations targeting Iran, and Netanyahu understood this position.

This is interpreted as a measure to prevent the conflict from escalating into a larger war in the Middle East. Israel first bombed the Iranian consulate in Syria on the 1st, and although Iran retaliated, it failed to cause significant damage, implying that Israel should be satisfied with this and refrain from further counterattacks.

Instead, President Biden reaffirmed the United States' firm commitment to Israel's security in a statement released after the call with Prime Minister Netanyahu. In the statement, President Biden said, "I told Prime Minister Netanyahu that Israel has demonstrated an extraordinary capability to defend against and repel unprecedented attacks, sending a clear message to Israel's enemies that they cannot effectively threaten Israel's security."

He condemned the attack in the strongest terms and announced plans to convene the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) on the 14th Eastern Time to coordinate a "united diplomatic response" to Iran's attack on Israel.

There are concerns that if the conflict escalates ahead of the November presidential election, it could be detrimental to President Biden. The Biden administration prioritizes preventing the Middle East war, which began last October with clashes between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas, from spreading to other regions, but it remains uncertain how effective U.S. efforts will be.

Republican former President Donald Trump, Biden's presidential rival, is also using the escalation of the Middle East situation as an opportunity to criticize Biden's foreign policy. He claimed that the world was peaceful when he was president, but due to Biden's incompetent diplomacy, wars keep breaking out in places like Ukraine and the Middle East, dragging the U.S. into conflict.

During a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on the same day, former President Trump began his speech by blaming Biden's weakness for Iran's attack on Israel, stating, "If we were in power, this would not have happened."
