Through this collaboration, Samsung Electronics plans to supply home appliances and lifestyle products such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, and projectors to 422 units moving in this year, and provide complex management solutions.
The two companies recently showcased a model house in Miami that demonstrated a living environment managed by SmartThings, integrating Samsung Electronics' home appliances, lighting, temperature and humidity control, occupancy detection, and various Internet of Things (IoT) sensors.
By applying AI-based personalized solutions, residents can enjoy an optimized smart home environment without separate operation.
When residents leave, the system switches to energy-saving mode by turning off lights and appliances, and when entering the building, it sets the preferred temperature and humidity and automatically powers on the necessary devices.
When watching movies on the TV or projector, the blinds and lighting adjust automatically, and at night, if residents wake up and go to the kitchen or bathroom, the lighting brightens at a low level.
It also supports housing management solutions for operators. Lighting and air conditioning are optimized to reduce the building's energy consumption, and if a home appliance has a problem, it automatically connects to the after-sales service (AS) center.
Park Chan-woo, Vice President of Samsung Electronics, said, "We have laid the foundation for the smart home business through this collaboration in the rapidly growing global single-person household and shared housing sectors," adding, "We will continue to develop the shared smart home business based on the competitiveness of solutions such as SmartThings."
