'Attack Readiness vs Response Posture' Uncertainty
The United States reportedly detected Iran moving military assets, including drones and cruise missiles, within its territory.
On the 12th (local time), the US CNN network reported this, citing multiple sources.
CNN stated that this suggests Iran may be preparing an attack on Israel from within its own borders.
However, CNN added that it is unclear whether Iran is preparing an attack within its territory as part of an initial strike, or if Israel and the US are positioning themselves to prevent a retaliatory strike that Iran might launch.
One source said that the US detected Iran preparing 100 cruise missiles in connection with this.
CNN also cited senior government sources, reporting that the US expects Iran to carry out attacks targeting multiple sites within Israel, and that Iran's proxy forces may also be involved in this attack.
Iran has blamed Israel for the bombing of its consulate in Syria on the 1st of this month and has promised retaliation.
US President Joe Biden told reporters that he expects an Iranian attack on Israel "soon," adding, "We will support Israel, help defend Israel, and Iran will not succeed."
