Korean Tax Association's Spring Academic Conference: 'Issues and Improvement Directions of Tax Policy Reform'

The Korean Tax Association will hold its Spring Academic Conference on the 13th at the University of Seoul, under the theme "Problems and Improvement Directions of Tax Policy Reform." The Tax Association is the largest academic organization related to taxation in Korea, involving various experts such as professors, certified public accountants, lawyers, and tax accountants specializing in tax law, tax policy, and tax accounting.

A representative of the Tax Association explained, "Tax policy is reformed according to changes in the political landscape, current policy challenges, and the international tax environment, during which taxpayers are affected in various ways. Through this academic conference, we plan to examine the problems that have arisen during the tax policy reform process in Korea and discuss tasks for desirable tax policy reform."

At the conference, the keynote speech on the main theme "Problems and Improvement Directions of Korea's Tax Policy Reform" will be delivered by Won Yoon-hee, former president of the Korea Institute of Public Finance and former president of the University of Seoul. Following this, a discussion will be held under the topic "Tax Policy Perspectives and Reform Directions by Major Issues." Additionally, the session "Understanding and Utilizing National Tax Data" will explore ways to use taxpayer research data held by the National Tax Service for research purposes.

The subsequent eight general sessions will cover various topics such as tax law, tax accounting, local taxes, and tax administration. Research topics will include traditional academic issues like profit adjustment, tax compliance, and tax avoidance, as well as recent areas of interest such as corporate succession, inheritance and gift issues, low birthrate, and carbon emissions.
