Up to 150 Million KRW Project Funding Support for Neighborhood Commercial Area Development Research and Planning
Gijang Market Area ... Establishing a Foundation for Sustainable Local Commercial Area Development
Busan Gijang-gun announced on the 12th that the Gijang Market area was finally selected as the target site in the ‘2024 Neighborhood Commercial District Development Support Project’ contest hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small Enterprise and Market Service.
The ‘Neighborhood Commercial District Development Support Project’ is a program where private experts such as local creators collaborate with local governments, merchants, and residents to solve problems in neighborhood commercial districts, research and plan local business models, and promote sustainable development.
The county received high evaluations by preparing a plan to revitalize the commercial district around Gijang Market in connection with surrounding historical and cultural resources such as Gijang Eupseong Fortress, Jang Gwancheong, and the Modern History Museum, ultimately achieving selection as the project target site.
With this selection, the county will receive up to 150 million KRW in project funds and will conduct research and planning necessary for commercial district development, including establishing neighborhood commercial district activation strategies, together with the project lead organization ‘Local by Local.’
By December, various projects will be promoted targeting the Gijang Market area, including ▲establishing neighborhood commercial district governance ▲local resource archiving ▲formulating neighborhood commercial district strategies ▲neighborhood commercial district living labs ▲public-private cooperation local markets.
In particular, if the projects carried out through this ‘Neighborhood Commercial District Development Support Project’ pass performance evaluations and are linked to the ‘Commercial District Revitalization Project’ as an excellent strategy, up to 10 billion KRW in project funds can be supported over the next five years.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “With the selection in this contest, a foundation has been laid for the sustainable development of the commercial district around Gijang Market, which is expected to revitalize the local commercial district,” adding, “We will spare no effort to actively support the successful promotion of this project so that it can lead to the ‘Commercial District Revitalization Project’ in the future.”
