'Houseboat' at US Dock
Captured While Being Moved Due to Eviction Order
The secret of the two-story house floating in San Francisco Bay for several days has been revealed.
On the 11th (local time), foreign media such as UPI and ABC7 News reported that a two-story wooden house floating on San Francisco Bay was first discovered on the 7th. The house was built on a barge, allowing it to float on the water, but when it was first found, the owner of the house and how much longer it would navigate were unknown. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) also stated that they were monitoring the house.
It turned out that this house was the last "houseboat" leaving the dock in Redwood City, California. At one time, more than 100 people lived on the water near this dock, but after a lawsuit by residents in 2015, the houseboats began to be evicted. This last boat leaving the dock was spotted by people while heading to Sausalito, San Francisco.
The new owner of the house explained that due to several issues, the house had to float in San Francisco Bay for several days. He also said that because this houseboat is very heavy, the wind and tides must be just right to move it, and moving the house is not an easy task. He added that work such as moving belongings can only be done when the tide is above a certain height, so they have to wait for another high tide.
A netizen who saw the boat joked, "It reminds me of the house in the movie Up," adding, "But this time, since it's on the waves, it's closer to Down."
