Dobong-gu Announces Winning Design Competition Entry for Banghak Station Facility Improvement Project
Reflects District Requests Including New South Station Building and Exit 4 Addition
Construction Scheduled to Begin in 2025 After Detailed Design Completion
The winning design for the Banghak Station facility improvement project has been announced.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that Korea Railroad Corporation has selected the work titled "Adding Wings for Takeoff" as the winning entry.
The winning design incorporates all the elements that Dobong-gu and Korea Railroad Corporation have discussed so far. It includes the construction of a new south station building and the addition of Exit 4, which the district had requested. The design also features a complete remodeling of the station and the installation of escalators at Exits 1 and 2.
Going forward, Banghak Station will undergo detailed design, with construction starting in 2025 and completion scheduled for 2029. Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, "Banghak Station, which has been the lifeline for Dobong residents since 1987, will now be transformed into a new form," adding, "Since all the district's requests have been reflected, not only will the environment be cleaner, but user convenience will also be greatly improved."
Earlier last month, the project method for the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit, which will connect to Banghak Station as a transfer station, was announced. The project will use a turnkey method and is expected to be completed about nine months ahead of schedule in 2031.
A district official stated, "Banghak Station will shed its old, worn-out image and become a transportation hub in northern Seoul."
