National Health Insurance Service Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Headquarters Sponsors 5 Million KRW for Solitary Death Prevention Project 'We Are Here' Project Donation Ceremony.

According to the 2022 solitary death survey by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, over 50% of solitary deaths occur among those aged 50 to 60, with the number of male cases being four times higher than that of females each year. Busan ranks first among cities in the incidence rate per 100,000 population.

Since 2020, the NHIS has been continuously implementing projects in collaboration with Saha District Office and Buk District Office in Busan to check the safety of elderly people living alone. Since last year, it has been regularly delivering milk to middle-aged low-income men living alone in Yeongdo District, which has the highest proportion of single-person households aged 65 and older, to check on their well-being and, upon detecting signs of crisis, provides additional welfare services in connection with the local community.

Choi Deok-geun, the head of the regional office, said, “We will continue to make efforts to resolve solitary deaths, which have emerged as a significant issue in the local community, by maintaining continuous interest and checking on the well-being of socially vulnerable groups who need care.”
