Honorary Professor Yoon Hee-yoon of Daegu University Appointed as Chairperson of the National Library Committee

"Faithful Implementation of the 4th Comprehensive Library Development Plan"

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 11th that Yoon Hee-yoon, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Library and Information Science at Daegu University, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Library Committee.

The National Library Committee is an organization that oversees library policies. It was established in 2007 based on the 'Library Act' and plays a role in deliberation and coordination. It is composed of private members including the chairperson, and ex officio members including the vice-chairperson (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and eleven ministers from various government departments.

The 8th committee, inaugurated on this day, plans to promptly advance pressing issues such as adjusting the annual implementation plans of key tasks ahead of the enforcement of the '4th Comprehensive Library Development Plan (2024?2028)'. Chairperson Yoon is originally from Cheongsong, Gyeongbuk. He graduated from the Department of Library Science at Kyungpook National University and earned his doctorate from Sungkyunkwan University. He served as a professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at Daegu University for 30 years, holding positions such as library director, dean of the College of Social Sciences, and dean of the Graduate School of Social Welfare. He also served as president of the Korean Library Association and as a member of the Library Information Policy Committee.

He stated, "Libraries are the cornerstone and base camp of knowledge and cultural life," adding, "Only by closely accompanying society at the center of life can we reach a culturally advanced nation." He also promised, "I will do my best to faithfully implement the 4th Comprehensive Library Development Plan to create 'libraries where everyone is happy.'"
