[22nd General Election] Lee Gae-ho Elected in Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Jangseong... Achieves 4th Term

This electoral district attracted attention as a fiercely contested area after candidate Lee Seok-hyung, who lost in the Democratic Party primary, ran as an independent.

Candidate Lee Seok-hyung received 35.91%, Kim Yoo-sung of the People Power Party 4.53%, Kim Seon-woo of the New Future Party 2.06%, and Kwak Jin-oh of the Reform New Party 1.02% of the votes.

Lee Gae-ho, a native of Damyang, graduated from Gwangju Kumho High School and majored in Business Administration at Chonnam National University. He entered public service in 1980 by passing the 24th Administrative Examination and served as the Vice Governor of Jeonnam Province, among other positions.

He first entered the National Assembly in the 2014 by-election for Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong in Jeonnam. He served as the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs under the Moon Jae-in administration and was re-elected in the 21st general election in 2016. Subsequently, he won consecutive elections in the 21st and 22nd general elections, reaching the milestone of a four-term lawmaker.

Lee Gae-ho stated, "Honam has been the driving force leading reform politics, but politicians from Honam or those with roots in Honam have not grown into leaders who can succeed the late President Kim Dae-jung. I will take the lead and strive to inherit President Kim’s historical awareness, reformist spirit, inclusiveness, democratic attitude, and policy-centered leadership so that politicians from Honam can be reborn as a political force trusted by the people."

He added, "Although I am a four-term lawmaker, I will return to my original intention and promptly fulfill the regional development pledges I made so that Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong can become the center of the local era through new growth engines."
