Jeon Jin-sook, the Democratic Party candidate for Buk-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, has secured her first entry into the National Assembly.
According to the National Election Commission on the 11th, as of 12 a.m. that day, Jeon recorded a 71.3% vote share, confirming her first-place position.
Jeon Jin-sook graduated from Gwangju Baegun Elementary School, Supia Girls' Middle School, Gwangju Dongsin Girls' High School, and majored in Chemistry at Chonnam National University. She also completed a master's course in Sociology at Chonnam National University Graduate School. She participated in the women's movement, serving as president of the Gwangju Women's Association, director of the Korean Women's Associations United, co-representative and central committee member of the Gwangju Women's Minwoo Association.
In the 2010 5th nationwide simultaneous local elections, she was elected as a proportional representative member of the Buk-gu Council in Gwangju as a Democratic Party candidate. In the 2014 6th nationwide simultaneous local elections, she ran as a New Politics Alliance for Democracy candidate for the Gwangju Metropolitan Council and was elected. She later served as an administrator at the Blue House under the Moon Jae-in administration.
She ran in the 2020 21st National Assembly election but was defeated in the primary by candidate Lee Hyung-seok. She ran again in this general election, defeating incumbent Lee Hyung-seok to advance to the main election.
Jeon said, "Today is not the day Jeon Jin-sook won, but the day I received the residents' mandate to create a better Buk-gu and a better Republic of Korea," adding, "With a heavy sense of responsibility, I will steady my heart as a representative of the people."
She continued, "I will stand firmly against the incompetent, ruthless, and irresponsible Yoon Seok-yeol administration. I will never back down under any circumstances to revive the collapsed livelihood," promising, "I will do my best to restore democracy and normalize the country."
Furthermore, she said, "I will work with the residents of Buk-gu to make Buk-gu the heart of Gwangju, a tourist city overflowing with jobs, a cutting-edge industrial city leading the future, and a cultural city full of excitement and joy," emphasizing, "As always, I will carry out legislative activities that communicate continuously."
She added, "I will listen attentively to each person's pain, joy, difficulties, and all aspects of daily life, working with sincerity and urgency."
