Voter Identity Verification Possible at Polling Stations Using Samsung Wallet or PASS Mobile ID
Naver Certificates and KakaoTalk Wallet Also Supported
In the 22nd general election, voters can also participate using the 'Samsung Wallet' and PASS mobile ID. According to the National Election Commission on the 10th, presenting a mobile ID in the Samsung Wallet or PASS application allows voters to verify their identity at the polling station.
The PASS mobile ID is an integrated online and offline ID that can be used in online and non-face-to-face environments. It has the same legal effect as a physical driver's license or national veterans registration card. When shown to the election staff, a procedure is followed to compare the ID photo with the face and verify that the name, gender, date of birth, and address match.
Samsung Wallet is a service launched by Samsung Electronics on the 20th of last month by revamping the existing Samsung Pay. It includes the 'mobile driver's license' and 'mobile national veterans registration card,' which have the same legal effect as physical IDs.
Additionally, identity verification at polling stations can also be done using driver's career certificates, disability certificates, school records, national technical certificates, and other documents issued through Naver Certificates and KakaoTalk Wallet.
