China and Russia condemned the unilateral sanctions imposed by the Western bloc and agreed to initiate multilateral talks to establish Eurasian security.

According to major foreign media including Russia's Sputnik News on the 9th, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office of the Chinese Communist Party (also serving as Foreign Minister), in Beijing. Lavrov stated, "There is a demand to form Eurasian security, and our Chinese friends and I have agreed to start dialogues on this issue with countries that share the same views."

Minister Lavrov mentioned, "While both Russia and China aim to strengthen Eurasian security, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have become structures exhausted for meaningful negotiations due to the balance of interests."

Both countries clearly expressed their opposition to the unilateral sanctions led by the Western bloc. At a joint press conference, Director Wang emphasized, "Unilateral sanctions are typical acts of intimidation that violate international law and the fair and legitimate international order, and run counter to the trend of global development. China strongly opposes this (use of unilateral sanctions), Russia strongly opposes it, and all countries must unite in opposition."

According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director Wang presented five 'beginnings and ends' (始終) of China-Russia relations at the press conference: following the strategic guidance of diplomacy between the leaders (President Xi Jinping and President Putin), adhering to the principles of 'non-alignment, non-confrontation, and no targeting of third countries,' upholding the right path as permanent members of the UN Security Council, pursuing mutual benefits, and promoting global multipolarity.

Minister Lavrov said, "My counterpart (Director Wang) spoke in great detail about the specific economic gaps created as a result of the illegal policy of unilateral sanctions," adding, "We will resolve (sanctions issues) within the frameworks of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)."

Meanwhile, the United States is restricting China's advanced technology through a de-risking strategy. Russia has become a target of sanctions by many Western countries following the Ukraine war.
