Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is accepting proposals for the "2024 Gangbuk-gu Resident Participatory Budget Projects" until Tuesday, the 30th, to reflect the opinions of Gangbuk-gu residents in district administration.
The "Resident Participatory Budget Projects" guarantee residents' participation in the budget formulation process and are implemented to enhance the transparency and fairness of the budget. The call for proposals covers projects related to education, welfare, safety, and other resident-centered benefits within Gangbuk-gu.
Not only Gangbuk-gu residents but also office workers employed in Gangbuk-gu and students attending schools located in Gangbuk-gu are eligible to apply. This year’s budget size is 700 million KRW, with general projects allowed up to 200 million KRW and event-type projects up to 30 million KRW.
Through last year’s resident participatory budget project call, the district invested 615 million KRW this year to implement 11 projects, including ▲discovering and promoting walking-friendly paths in Gangbuk-gu ▲replacing LED security lights in secluded areas ▲installing automatic flushing devices in public restrooms ▲renovating old sidewalks on Insu-bong-ro ▲replacing LED security lights in alleys of Songjung-dong ▲village family film festivals ▲future education camps for elementary and middle school students ▲maintaining the walking trail beside Samgaksan Middle School ▲installing pigeon deterrent nets under the Uicheon bridges ▲customized capacity-building education for Gangbuk-gu parents nurturing future talents ▲hosting the Gangbuk Future Education Festival.
Residents wishing to apply can submit their project proposal forms via the Gangbuk-gu website, mail, or in person (4th floor, Planning and Budget Division, 13 Dobong-ro 89-gil). Detailed information such as the proposal form and application methods can be found on the Gangbuk-gu website.
Proposed projects will undergo feasibility reviews by the relevant departments, evaluation by the Resident Participatory Budget Committee, resident voting, and general meetings before final approval. Approved projects will be implemented in 2025.
Additionally, starting this year, to better reflect residents’ opinions in district administration, the weighting of resident votes in project selection has been increased from 40% resident and 60% committee to 50% resident and 50% committee.
Moreover, on the 15th at 10 a.m., the "Gangbuk-gu Resident Participatory Budget School" will be held in the Planning Situation Room at Gangbuk-gu Office to provide basic education on understanding the participatory budget system and guidance on how to write project proposals.
Any Gangbuk-gu resident interested in education can apply. Those wishing to participate can register online or by phone with the Planning and Budget Division by 3 p.m. on the 12th via the Gangbuk-gu website. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Gangbuk-gu Planning and Budget Division.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, "We hope many applications will be submitted to discover resident-centered projects that need improvement or can lead regional development through this year’s call. We will continue to actively reflect residents’ opinions in district administration and strive to become a Gangbuk-gu that communicates closely with its residents."
