Support for Medical Expenses for Children Injured in Traffic Accidents While Walking

Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that it will expand the coverage items of the Citizen Safety Insurance and apply them starting this month.

Citizen Safety Insurance is a system where citizens residing in the local government area receive insurance benefits according to the agreed coverage through an insurance company contracted with the local government if they suffer injuries due to unexpected disasters or safety accidents within the country. Citizens registered in the local government are automatically enrolled in the insurance without the need for separate subscription. The insurance premium is fully covered by the local government.

The main coverage of Pyeongtaek City's Citizen Safety Insurance for this year includes compensation up to 10 million KRW based on the disability rate for cases of disability caused by accidents such as explosion, fire, collapse, landslide, electric shock, accidents while using public transportation, agricultural machinery accidents, and natural disasters. In case of death while using public transportation, a death benefit of 10 million KRW is paid.

Additionally, it covers medical expenses (200,000 KRW) for injury accidents, funeral expenses (10 million KRW) for death due to injury accidents, and injury from traffic accidents within child protection zones for children under 12 years old (10 million KRW).

This year, the city especially added a coverage item for treatment expenses for injuries from traffic accidents involving children walking. If a child under 12 years old walking is injured in a traffic accident involving collision or contact with a moving vehicle, treatment expenses are compensated up to 500,000 KRW per person according to the injury grade.

Citizen Safety Insurance allows claims within three years from the date of the accident even if the insured moves to another city or county after the insurance subscription period, as long as the accident occurs within the insurance period. It can also overlap with personal indemnity insurance coverage. When a claim reason occurs, submit the required documents directly to the Citizen Safety Insurance Reception Center or mobile reception.
