Doosan Robotics announced on the 8th that it has developed a collaborative robot barista solution specialized for Mega MGC Coffee and will install it for the first time at the Mega MGC Coffee Konkuk University Star Branch for pilot operation. Mega MGC Coffee operates 2,847 stores nationwide and is a rapidly growing franchise that opened more than 500 new stores last year alone.
Last year, Doosan Robotics signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Anhouse, the operator of Mega MGC Coffee, to improve the work environment of domestic F&B franchises through automation.
The collaborative robot barista solution developed by the two companies features minimal employee movement while utilizing the existing coffee-making space structure within the store. It is linked with grinders and semi-automatic coffee machines to enable the collaborative robot to extract espresso. In particular, it can perform continuous actions by preparing for the next extraction while extracting espresso, allowing coffee to be made at the speed of a human barista.
The two companies plan to conduct additional pilot operations at one or two stores and hold explanatory sessions on the collaborative robot barista solution for franchise owners within the first half of the year to share operational results and effectiveness. They agreed to cooperate to supply the solution with excellent quality and competitive pricing.
Ryu Jeong-hoon, CEO of Doosan Robotics, said, "We are very excited to supply the collaborative robot barista solution to Mega MGC Coffee, which boasts rapid growth and high store retention rates," adding, "We will establish this as a business model that grows together with franchise owners and expand the application of collaborative robot solutions to other types of F&B franchise companies."
