Bucheon-si Elementary English Center Satisfaction High... 'Mobile Classes' Expanded to All Schools

Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province, which has been operating an elementary English center since 2008, is receiving positive responses, and this year it will expand the 'mobile classes' to all elementary schools in the city.

The elementary English center provides equal English education opportunities to students to reduce educational gaps and operates customized programs tailored to student levels, including regular classes, mobile classes, after-school English classes, vacation camps, and English reading programs.

According to Bucheon City, a satisfaction survey on the English program last year showed that 94.2% responded positively, and 95.8% said that after-school English classes helped reduce private education expenses.

The elementary English center involves students from nearby elementary schools centered around four hub schools (Bucheon Jungang Elementary School, Sangwon Elementary School, Solan Elementary School, Bucheon Daemyeong Elementary School).

All classes are conducted by native English speakers and Korean instructors together, offering not only English conversation classes linked to the curriculum but also various English experiential learning classes such as sports, music, and cooking, allowing students to learn English easily and enjoyably.

In particular, this year, the 'mobile classes' for 5th graders, which were previously held at some applicant schools, will be expanded to all elementary schools in Bucheon City. Additionally, every Friday, a 2-hour class per class called 'World Culture Experience with Native Speakers' will be conducted to provide more students with opportunities to communicate with native speakers.

Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon City, said, "The elementary English center reduces parents' private education expenses and creates an environment where children can naturally communicate with native speakers, enhancing their learning effectiveness." He added, "We expect not only students' English skills but also their global competencies to improve."
