Noise in the Alley, Complaint After Minor Offense Fine Imposed
Police Subdue and Arrest Suspect After Physical Struggle

A man in his 50s who went to a police substation carrying gasoline to set a fire because he was fined was caught at the scene.

On the 5th, the Incheon Western Police Station announced that they had arrested and sent a man in his 50s, Mr. A, to the prosecution on charges of attempted arson of a public building. Mr. A is accused of attempting to set a fire at the Geomdan Police Substation in Seo-gu, Incheon, around 9:50 p.m. on the 15th of last month, carrying gasoline and a lighter. About 30 minutes before the incident, he caused a disturbance in an alley and was fined 50,000 won for causing anxiety under the Minor Offenses Act. Feeling dissatisfied with this, he went to the police substation. It is reported that Mr. A purchased gasoline himself at a nearby gas station and went to the substation, causing a disturbance while saying, "I will pour (the gasoline) and kill." At the time of the crime, Mr. A was intoxicated.

The police subdued Mr. A after a struggle, confiscated the gasoline and lighter, and arrested him on the spot. A police official said, "The substation staff sensed something suspicious and kept an eye on Mr. A, then quickly responded to prevent major damage." The Incheon Police Agency released CCTV footage showing Mr. A’s crime and arrest on their official YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, in December last year, there was also an incident where a man dissatisfied with a police investigation stormed into a police substation carrying a weapon. At 2:16 a.m. on December 28 last year, a man in his 50s, Mr. B, intoxicated, entered the Seodaejeon Police Substation in Munhwa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, carrying a sharp weapon and a blunt weapon in both hands. He was under police investigation for assaulting a passenger in the back seat who tried to stop a fight after he had an argument with a taxi driver while drunk the day before. Dissatisfied with this, he stormed into the police substation.

The CCTV footage released by the police shows Mr. B entering the substation and shouting at the police while causing a disturbance. Four police officers on duty at the substation confronted Mr. B. While the officers tried to calm the agitated Mr. B, Sergeant Park Geon-gyu, a martial arts expert holding a total of 14 dan ranks in kickboxing, martial arts, hapkido, and jiu-jitsu, quietly approached Mr. B from behind wearing anti-cut gloves. Sergeant Park quickly put his hands under both of Mr. B’s armpits and hugged him, and a fellow officer standing right in front of Mr. B joined in to take him down to the floor of the substation and subdue him. Fortunately, no one was injured during this process. The police sent Mr. B to the prosecution on charges of assault and obstruction of official duties.
