Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has installed an automatic tumbler washing machine inside the government building to reduce the use of disposable cups and take the lead in practicing carbon neutrality in daily life.

The district has encouraged the use of reusable cups due to the rapid increase in disposable product usage, but the inconvenience of having to wash tumblers personally prevented the active use of personal cups.

Accordingly, a tumbler washing machine was installed on the first floor of the Civil Service Welfare Building, allowing not only employees but also any citizens visiting the district office to use it. The automatic washing machine uses eco-friendly detergent and can sterilize and clean cups, straws, and lids, which is expected to help hygienic tumbler management and promote the habitual use of reusable cups.

Gwangjin-gu plans to gradually increase the number of tumbler washing machines based on operational results such as employee satisfaction in the future.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope that citizens visiting the district office will actively participate in using reusable cups by utilizing the tumbler washing machine,” and added, “Gwangjin-gu will continue to explore various measures to reduce disposable products and do its best to spread the culture of practicing carbon neutrality throughout the local community.”

In addition, Gwangjin-gu is working to create a disposable-free working environment by restricting the use and bringing in of disposable cups within the government building and encouraging the use of reusable containers during various meetings and events.
