Gwangyang City 'Youth Couple Marriage Celebration Fund' Also Available for Remarried Couples

200,000 KRW Marriage Congratulatory Grant for Young Couples

Application Available Only if Neither Spouse Has Previously Received the Grant

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it is providing a 2 million KRW marriage congratulatory grant to young couples to alleviate the initial economic burden of marriage and to promote the influx and settlement of young people in the region.

The applicants must be couples aged 49 or younger (based on the marriage registration date) who registered their marriage after July 4, 2022. From this year, remarried couples are also eligible. However, since this is a one-time support per lifetime, couples where either spouse has previously received the grant are excluded.

The residency requirement is that both spouses must have lived in Jeollanam-do for more than six months after the marriage registration (excluding those who moved to another city or province within the payment period), and at least one spouse (the applicant) must have an address registered in Gwangyang City as a young couple.

The city has extended the application period from within one year after six months from the marriage registration date to within one year and six months after six months, to accommodate couples who missed the benefit due to the short application period.

Also, previously, the applicant had to be the wife, and if the husband applied, a power of attorney had to be submitted. From this year, either spouse can apply at the local administrative office of their registered address without a power of attorney.

Lee Hyang, Director of the Birth and Health Division, said, “Gwangyang City will continue to strengthen support for the influx and settlement of young people that is practically helpful, to reduce the initial economic burden of marriage for young couples and to strive for stable regional settlement.”
