Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is recently making every effort to establish plans to prevent population decline and respond to local extinction.
“2025 Cheongsong-gun Local Extinction Response Fund Investment Plan” Establishment Service Mid-term Report Meeting.
On the 2nd, the county held an interim report meeting for the “2025 Cheongsong-gun Local Extinction Response Fund Investment Plan” at the first conference room of the county office, attended by Yoon Kyung-hee, the governor of Cheongsong-gun, and about 20 department heads and officials.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety allocates a Local Extinction Response Fund worth a total of 10 trillion won, 1 trillion won annually, to 122 local governments nationwide. After evaluating investment plans for projects led by local governments to prevent population decline and respond to local extinction, the fund is distributed differentially based on the results.
Since 2022 until 2024, Cheongsong-gun has been investing 24.2 billion won from the Local Extinction Response Fund into 22 projects, including building a foundation to enhance the Cheongsong Apple brand image, creating public rental housing, and promoting the K-U City anti-aging project.
At this report meeting, along with the report on the 2025 Cheongsong-gun Local Extinction Response Fund investment plan projects, in-depth discussions were held to improve and supplement investment projects to meet the fund allocation criteria and to secure the fund to the maximum extent possible. Various opinions were also discussed to promote regional development and vitality, such as measures to prevent youth population outflow through youth job creation and improvement of residential conditions, plans to increase the resident population by attracting a women’s correctional facility to Cheongsong, and ways to strengthen agricultural competitiveness and increase farm income through Cheongsong apple cultivation technology education to prevent resident population outflow and enhance the effect of attracting returnees to farming.
Governor Yoon Kyung-hee said, “Since population decline and local extinction are realistic crisis situations, it is important to establish a differentiated investment plan that maximally reflects the unique strengths of Cheongsong-gun,” adding, “We will do our best to secure the Local Extinction Response Fund so that Cheongsong-gun can become a place where all residents prosper together.”
