Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Supports Environmental Improvement for Residential Facilities for the Disabled

Creating an Environment for Coexistence and Social Contribution

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (hereinafter referred to as the Authority, President Park Seong-hyun) announced on the 3rd that it supported facility improvements at Donghaeng Village, a residential facility for people with severe disabilities located in Yeosu City, creating a barrier-free environment that makes life more convenient for disabled residents.

At the end of last year, the Authority donated 25 million KRW to the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea's "Hope 2024 Sharing Campaign Eastern Region Love Thermometer Unveiling Ceremony" to improve the barrier-free environment of Donghaeng Village, a residential facility for people with disabilities in the Yeosu area.

With this support, Donghaeng Village was able to remodel four restrooms and remove nine door thresholds, enabling residents who use wheelchairs or crutches to live their daily lives more conveniently.

President Park Seong-hyun of the Authority stated, “As the only public institution headquartered in the eastern region of Jeonnam, Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority will promote social contribution activities so that people with and without disabilities can live together in harmony within the local community.”

Meanwhile, Donghaeng Village, opened in 2020, is the only apartment-style residential facility for people with severe disabilities nationwide. Following the amendment of the Disabled Welfare Act and the trend toward smaller residential facilities for people with disabilities (around 30 residents), 30 people with severe disabilities who had been living in Dongbaekwon moved to Donghaeng Village, marking the start of its operation.
