Alcohol specialist company Bohae Brewery announced on the 3rd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of soju using the region’s representative specialty product, “dashima” (kelp), with Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative.
The main points of the agreement include ▲support for research and development of alcoholic products using Wando dashima ▲network cooperation to enhance product brand awareness and market establishment ▲support for product promotion and marketing. Both parties plan to contribute to promoting seafood consumption and revitalizing the seaweed market through mutual organic cooperation.
Dashima is a representative specialty product of Wando, with 70% of the domestic production coming from Geumildo Island in Wando. Dashima is known as a seaweed containing various nutrients such as dietary fiber, minerals, and vitamins.
Before this MOU, Bohae Brewery had continued product development fitting the slogan “The depth of the sea in a single glass” by launching “Bohae Soju” using Sinan topan salt.
A Bohae Brewery official stated, “We have been striving for research and development of alcoholic beverages using local specialty products, and as part of that effort, we have signed an agreement with Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative. We will continue to strengthen our status as an alcohol specialist company through activities that harmonize with the ‘taste’ and ‘style’ of the Honam region.”
