Documentary 'I Am God' Production Team's New Work
Covers Murders by Go Yoo-jeong, Lee Eun-hae, etc.
"Title and Planning Intent Are Discriminatory" Raised as Issues
The production team of the documentary "I Am God," which exposed the true nature of Jeong Myeong-seok, the president of the Christian Gospel Mission (commonly known as JMS), announced that they will release "She Died," a new series about five female criminals including Go Yoo-jeong and Lee Eun-hae, next month, sparking mixed reactions online.
On the 2nd, they revealed that the new series "She Died" will be released on LG Uplus Mobile TV and MBC on the 6th and 12th of next month, respectively. The production team introduced, "We reexamine five female criminals who shocked the world with their meticulous crimes and the brutal incidents involved," adding, "Based on exclusive coverage materials such as court testimonies and statements, we used AI (artificial intelligence) technology to weave together the voices of the criminals, surrounding testimonies, and crime scenes through storytelling techniques."
The series covers ▲Jeju ex-husband murder case (Go Yoo-jeong) ▲Gapyeong valley murder case (Lee Eun-hae) ▲serial insurance murder case (Eom In-sook) ▲Incheon elementary school student murder case ▲Park Chorong Chorong Bitna’s abduction and murder case (Jeon Hyun-joo).
Following this, heated debates erupted on online communities. Netizens responded with comments such as, "There are so many male murderers, why aren't they covered?", "Make one called 'A Man Killed'," "Don't you see women are dying every day?", and "The title is malicious."
Some pointed out that 'misogynistic crimes,' where violence is committed based on prejudices and stereotypes against women, have been occurring frequently, including the 'shortcut female assault' incident last November. They argued that the release of a 'female murderer documentary' during this period contradicts the social atmosphere and public sentiment. There are also views that the use of 'She' in the title and the planning intent are sexist.
Previously, the production team of "She Killed" also made "I Am God," which was released on the online video service (OTT) Netflix last year and faced criticism over whether the detailed depiction of sexual exploitation scenes was ethical. The inclusion of recordings of Jeong Myeong-seok’s perverted sexual acts, audio from sexual violence scenes, and videos of naked female followers led some to criticize it as 'secondary harm that disregards the human rights of female victims.'
