All Support Information for Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Parenting in One Book... Gangdong-gu Publishes 'Mampyeonhan Sesang'

Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Su-hee) has published the information booklet "Mom Comfortable World," which compiles support policies related to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting into one volume, following last year.

As the low birthrate issue has become more serious recently, the government and local governments are introducing various childbirth support policies. However, residents who actually need support face many difficulties in utilizing these policies. Since the support policies cover diverse fields and each project is managed by different departments, there have been limitations for both residents and local government officials in comprehensively understanding the information.

To address this issue, Gangdong-gu published "Mom Comfortable World," selecting and compiling the information and benefits that beneficiaries need to know into one volume. It includes all necessary content to the extent that Gangdong-gu office staff who handle counseling for infant and toddler support policies can use it as a work guideline.

Without having to inquire at multiple institutions individually, the booklet thoroughly covers 79 support projects by stages such as marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, and childcare, including specific support conditions and application methods. It also contains information on support projects according to family types such as single-parent families, teenage parents, and multi-child families, as well as facilities that caregivers and children can visit together, such as Seoul-style kids cafes (play facilities exclusively for infants and toddlers) and infant forest experience centers.

To enable many residents to utilize the booklet, the district has significantly increased the production quantity of "Mom Comfortable World" this year to 3,000 copies, which will be placed in health centers, postpartum care centers, obstetrics and gynecology clinics, and provided to expectant mothers, pregnant women, and childbirth households. Additionally, to allow convenient access to information anytime and anywhere online, the file can be downloaded or viewed in e-Book format on the Gangdong-gu office website.

Including the publication of this "Mom Comfortable World," Gangdong-gu is raising Seoul’s total fertility rate through various childbirth and parenting policies. Last year, the district pursued 62 projects across 11 tasks in three major areas under the goal of "Gangdong, a good place to raise children by working and caring together." Achievements were made in various fields such as ▲creating a happy foundation for birth and parenting ▲establishing a safe and thorough child care system ▲spreading diverse and equal family cultures.

In particular, the ‘Gangdong iMOM Taxi’ service for families with infants and toddlers, which was pioneered in Gangdong-gu, has been expanded citywide this year as the ‘Seoul Mom Dad Taxi’ project.

Additionally, the district provides a ‘Special Multi-child Incentive’ of 100,000 to 200,000 KRW per month to families with three or more children, and a ‘School Admission Congratulatory Fund’ of 500,000 KRW when the fourth or later child enters elementary, middle, or high school. The ‘WIN-WIN Project,’ which supports 270 families for 14 years by sponsoring 100,000 KRW monthly childcare expenses through partnerships between multi-child families and companies or organizations, continues to provide support.

Lee Su-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “Gangdong-gu is a city certified as a child-friendly city, family-friendly city, and women-friendly city, and we are doing our best to create a city where everyone from children to parents can live well,” adding, “We will spare no effort in providing information and support so that all residents can comfortably marry, give birth, and raise children.”
