"Prevent Fishing Boat Accidents" ... Goseong-gun Conducts On-Site Inspections and Safety Guidance for Coastal Fishing Boats

Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province recently conducted on-site inspections and promotional guidance for fishing industry organizations, including 29 local fishing cooperatives and 7 autonomous fishing vessel management communities, as well as fishermen working in the field, distributing safety accident prevention materials by fishing vessel type.

This action follows the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries designating a special alert period for fishing vessel safety due to a series of fishing vessel accidents involving multiple casualties. A special crisis alert level "Warning" was issued from 3 PM on March 18 to 3 PM on April 1.

Through this, based on the crisis response manual for marine vessel accidents (coastal fishing vessels), the relevant agencies will maximize their capabilities related to fishing vessel accidents and maintain an immediate response posture in case of crisis occurrence.

During this inspection, the county promoted and guided fishermen on accident prevention measures such as strict compliance with port entry and exit regulations, installation of location transmission devices on fishing vessels during fishing and navigation, and mandatory wearing of life jackets to prevent fishing vessel sinking and capsizing accidents. They also directly promoted safety accident prevention measures such as paying attention to maritime safety accidents during vessel operation and evacuating to safe waters in case of bad weather.

Additionally, with the arrival of the spring fishing season, when fishing vessels frequently depart and thick fog often occurs due to large temperature differences, increasing the possibility of fishing vessel accidents, special spring safety inspections were conducted on fishing vessels, fishery management vessels, and fishing charter boats.

County Governor Sang-geun Lee stated, “As the spring fishing season and farming season approach, increasing the likelihood of accidents, we will do our best to prevent casualties caused by fishing vessel accidents through on-site inspections and safety accident prevention guidance and promotion.”
