The Brian Impact Foundation has appointed former Kakao Brain CEO Park Seung-gi as its new chairman.
Chairman Park officially began his duties on the 1st. The Brian Impact board stated that Park was chosen as "a suitable candidate who aligns with the foundation's direction of solving social issues using artificial intelligence (AI) and science and technology, and who can effectively lead both the ongoing social impact projects and new initiatives."
The Brian Impact Foundation was established in 2021 following a donation declaration by Kim Beom-su, the founder of Kakao. The foundation's main business direction is to contribute to solving various social problems by utilizing AI and other scientific technologies.
Chairman Park was a key figure in developing KakaoTalk at iWiLab, the predecessor of Kakao, in 2007. He also participated in the establishment of Kakao Brain, an AI technology specialist company, alongside Kim Beom-su, the founder of Brian Impact.
In September 2018, Park succeeded former Kakao Brain CEO Kim Beom-su and has played a pivotal role in the company's growth. He has experience in both HR and AI-related work. He is evaluated as someone who deeply understands the direction of the foundation's activities and possesses the expertise and execution capability for AI-related projects that Brian Impact will pursue in the future.
Chairman Park said, "Brian Impact has consistently supported social impact companies and organizations that lead societal change based on the belief that technology can help people create a better world. I deeply resonate with Brian Impact's core philosophy and will do my best to vigorously promote public interest projects with enhanced AI expertise, building on the existing projects that the foundation has diligently carried out."
Meanwhile, Brian Impact is striving to enable bolder challenges and new attempts in our society through various projects such as 'Side Impact,' a contest for solving social problems using technology; support for AI-related papers through the Everyone's Research Institute 'Paper Shop'; 'Impact Ground,' which supports innovative organizations contributing to social problem-solving; 'Brian Fellow,' which aims to create social impact through support for people; and projects to expand employment for people with severe disabilities.
