Gyeonggi Province will hold the ‘DMZ OPEN Festival’ from May to November this year.
This year, the DMZ OPEN Festival will be co-chaired by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon and ecologist Choi Jae-chun, Ewha Womans University endowed chair professor, with Lim Mi-jung, Hansae University professor, appointed as the general director to lead the event.
During the approximately seven months of the festival, Gyeonggi Province will host artistic events such as international music festivals, peace concerts, and exhibitions, as well as academic events including the Eco Peace Forum, special lectures, and policy contests in the northern Gyeonggi area and the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Sports events such as peace walks and marathons will also be held.
Last year, Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who attended the DMZ Open Festival event, is seen talking with the attendees.
In particular, this year, the festival will include an exhibition featuring opportunity-income artists linked to the second phase opening of Camp Greaves in the second half of the year, the Gyeonggi Province Sports Festival, and the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival.
Additionally, applying the RE100 concept, eco-friendly events such as making shopping bags through recycling of discarded banners will be promoted. Furthermore, street performances (busking) by North Korean defectors at the inter-Korean immigration office, performances and exhibitions linked with the DMZ Peace Train running to Dorasan Station, and other peace tourism content will actively attract domestic and international tourists.
Meanwhile, the DMZ OPEN Festival, held both online and offline from May to November last year, attracted a total of approximately 1.64 million participants over seven months.
