Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform New Party and candidate for Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, raised suspicions that the daughter of Gong Young-woon, the Democratic Party candidate and former vice president of Hyundai Motor Company, is employed at Hyundai Glovis, an affiliate of the Hyundai Motor Group.
On the 31st, Lee posted on his Facebook, "I publicly ask candidate Gong Young-woon. Multiple informants have reported that candidate Gong's daughter is employed and currently working at Hyundai Glovis, a key affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, in which Hyundai Motor and its owners hold 29.35% of the shares."
He added, "As candidate Gong often explains, it may be 'legally permissible' for children of corporate executives to be employed at affiliates, but even if the circumstances differ slightly, there have been major controversies regarding employment of employees' children at Shinhan Bank, KT, Naver, Doosan Heavy Industries, NongHyup, and others."
Lee said, "I just want to verify the facts first," and asked, "Is it true, as multiple informants say, that candidate Gong's daughter is employed at Glovis, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group where her father is an executive?"
Previously, candidate Gong faced a 'Dad Chance' controversy after it was revealed that he gifted real estate worth several hundred million won in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, to his son who was serving in the military in 2021.
