On the 31st, Kyodo News and Yomiuri reported that on the 30th, a Japan-China expert consultation was held in Dalian, China, focusing on the ocean discharge of contaminated water from Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
On the Japanese side, officials from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Nuclear Regulation Authority, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Tokyo Electric Power Company attended, explaining monitoring details since the start of ocean discharge of contaminated water in August last year.
On the Chinese side, representatives from multiple research institutions participated.
This consultation is reported to have followed the agreement made at the summit meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in November last year to seek solutions to the Fukushima contaminated water issue.
Since the summit in November last year, the two governments have had multiple contacts regarding this issue. However, this is the first time the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially announced holding expert consultations.
