On the 29th, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, held the '2024 Yuseong Market Manse Movement and Uibyeong Festival' at the Jangteo Playground within Yuseong Market.

The event began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Yuseong Uibyeong Monument and the planting of Taegeukgi flags, with over 300 local residents participating to reenact the independence manse movement of 1919.

Especially this year, various programs for children to experience were held, including making Taegeukgi flags, pinwheels, and face painting, to carry on the spirit of the March 1st Movement.

Jung Yong-rae, head of Yuseong-gu Office, said, "I hope the 105th anniversary event of the March 1st Movement will inspire pride among local residents and instill patriotism in the youth," adding, "We will strive to rediscover the history of the Yuseong Market Manse Movement through more data excavation and research."

The Yuseong Market Manse Movement began on March 16, 1919, when brothers Lee Sang-su and Lee Gwon-su from Jijok-ri raised a large Taegeukgi flag in the middle of the village and went to Yuseong Market, starting the movement with a crowd of about 300 people. On March 31 and April 1, they attacked the Yuseong military police station wielding sickles and hoes. One person died from gunfire by Japanese military police, and many were arrested, marking the starting point of the manse movement in the Daejeon area.
